Set to be hosted by Peru, the coming international events will put the Andean country before the eyes of the world, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski affirmed.
Remarks were made during his presidential speech on the occasion of Peru’s 196th Independence Day anniversary on Friday.

In this context, the Inca nation will witness the following mega-events:

  1. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session

The 130th IOC Session —taking place on Sep. 13, 2017— will see the election of the host city for the 2024 Olympic Games between candidates: Los Angeles (USA) and Paris (France).
The gathering will feature French President Emmanuel Macron.

  1. Pope Francis

Pope Francis will visit Peru on January 18-21 next year. His trip will include cities Lima, Puerto Maldonado and Trujillo.

It must be noted Pope Francis last May expressed his wish to visit Peru in 2018.
His Holiness sent a contribution of US$100,000 to Peru as an expression of love and sympathy with the South American nation to tackle “Coastal El Niño” phenomenon.

  1. The Dakar Rally

The Dakar Rally —to be held in January 2018— will comprise a tour running across Argentina, Bolivia and Peru.
The 40th edition will include many stages to be raced against the clock.
The race will host 750 competitors, among them 40 Peruvian representatives.

  1. The Summit of the Americas 

The Andean country will be the venue of the 8th Summit of the Americas.
Slated for April 2018, the Summit is intended to strengthen democracy and tackle corruption in the hemisphere.

5. Lima 2019 Pan-American Games 


The major sporting event will be held in the Peruvian capital from July 26 to August 11, 2019.
It will feature 6,695 athletes from 41 countries competing in 38 sports and 55 disciplines.
